Starting the New Year Right

If you haven’t checked out my latest post on self-hosting check it out!- Making the Switch: Moving to a Self-Hosted Blogging Platform.
Today was perfect.
I went for an afternoon run at around 3. It was 70 degrees and beautiful, but the temperature change baffles me! I was able to wear shorts and a t-shirt!
Can’t remember the last time I did that!
My run was perfect too! I kept it easy but was still able to run all three miles in under 8:00, all with a smile on my face!
Total time: 23:21 (7:47 pace).
When I came back from my run, I had a package waiting for me at my PO Box…
Oh school books…ick… nevermind.
Lunch:
Since it was later in the afternoon, I wanted to keep lunch fairly light, but protein rich:
- Handful of spinach
- Handful of frozen peaches
- 1/2 c almond milk
- 1/2 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
And this little tofu sandwich- a slice of Ezekiel bread with spinach, tomatoes, and grilled tofu.
I spent a few hours writing my tips for self-hosting post, which actually was pretty fun. Hopefully it’s not too boring for you all.
I tried to keep it interesting, informative, and useful. Let me know what you think! It was fun to write something that is not food or fitness related.
Dinner:
Another simple dish. I roasted up some veggies, rolled it in a whole wheat wrap and called it a night. Along with a side of beans and balsamic vinegar for dipping.
365 Days of Beauty Challenge:
I am declaring TODAY the official start of my 365 Days of Beauty Challenge. I know that I wanted to start it a few weeks ago, but I sort of fell off the bandwagon.
However, today is a new day and a new year and I will stick to it. I’ve reproduced the rules from a previous post.
Many of you know about Operation Beautiful and perhaps have left your own positive Post- It Note somewhere. It amazes me how a small anonymous act can change someone’s day. I have never found a note myself, but I like to leave them places from time to time. It makes me smile knowing that I may brighten someone’s day.
So I started thinking…Operation Beautiful has gotten a lot of media attention and many people know about it, but I still know plenty of people who have never heard about it. I want every single person in the world to know about the amazing message and mission of Operation Beautiful. In a world that is so centered on physical appearance, women (and men!) need to know that they are amazing and beautiful inside AND out! For those who see a Post- It with a positive message on it, this can mean the world and really change how a person feels about themselves. This logic also works the other way for the person who posts the note.
This is my challenge. Starting today, I will post a new Operation Beautiful note every single DAY. It can be anywhere- the store, dressing room, train, plane, bathroom, etc. Any place where someone (even one person!) will see the note.
Some rules (or guidelines):
1) I must have a new message everyday. I can not repeat a message from a previous day! I can use quotes! 2) I must post messages that I believe about myself. Part of this challenge is to help myself gain a better self- image- internally and externally, while helping others! 3) I must post the location where I posted the note. I am trying to place these notes in as many different locations as possible! Here’s the note of the day:
Posted on the door leading out of my apartment building- Jacksonville, FL.
I’m off to fall asleep watching a crappy Lifetime Movie.
Night!

My name is Katy and I am a 23-year-old living, running, and cycling in and around the Washington, DC metro area. This blog chronicles my life, inner musings, and fitness adventures as I try to navigate this crazy thing called life!

I am SO JEALOUS of your weather!!! I seriously plan on moving/going to med school in Florida after college! I’m excited to run 1,000 miles this year!!
You are the opposite of me! I want to move NORTH for grad school! Haha… give me the colder weather!
So about that self hosted blogger post….. How long have you been blogging for? How did you learn all this stuff? haha I’m totally new to having my own blog but I love it so far.. do you recommend just learning as I go?… I don’t really have money to invest in this either
p.s check out my blog tell me what you think
I LOVE YOURS ( i’m a musician too!)
I will definitely check out your blog!
I’ve been blogging since October 13, 2010… so not too long now, but I LOVE IT! I learned everything pretty much on my own, just learning as I go. I’ve read a lot of great blog posts about gaining viewership and stuff, most mostly I’m doing this alone. It’s hard work at times, but I love it and I love connecting with new people!
Congrats on self hosting! That is awesome. I havent made the jump yet… do you feel it was worth it?
And I feel like a mom saying it but….. dont forget your healthy fats, my dear!
That was definitely a great way to start off the year!
I absolutely LOVED the 365 challenge.
I’m actually considering doing it myself!
Let’s wait and see how that goes
Happy New Year, Katy!
xoxo
