Back to Reality and Looking to the Future

Whew! What a weekend! Back to normal life. :(

I really enjoyed being in my “Disney Bubble” and found it super difficult to leave this morning. Everything that I worked for since October is done. All the training is done. The race is done. I honestly woke up this morning with the “post-race blues.” As we left the resort, we passed some of the marathon runners, and a lump in my throat formed. I wanted to cry. I guess the reality of everything I had achieved finally set in.

So, what’s next? You’ll have to wait until the end of this post to see. ;) I have BIG plans! :D

Breakfast:

Before heading back to Gainesville, we stopped at a supermarket to grab a few breakfast items. I was honestly tired of going out to eat and wanted yogurt! :D However, the store did not have Chobani, so I had to settle for another brand.

In the mix:

  • 1 container plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 small peach
  • Handful of Kashi Heart to Heart cereal
  • Handful of  almonds

I spent the duration of the car drive to Gainesville catching up on some schoolwork. Once I made it back to Gainesville, I did some laundry and made lunch while I waited for my clothes to dry.

Lunch:

In the salad:

  • Mixed greens
  • Mushrooms
  • Celery
  • Tomatoes
  • Water chestnuts
  • Carrots
  • Pineapple
  • Blueberries

It may sound like a weird combination, but it actually was pretty tasty. :D

While at home, I talked to my parents about school for a little. Remember how I said I was taking 26 credits this semester? I realized that there is no way that I am going to make it through without having a few panic attacks over the next few months. So I decided it was in my best interest to drop a class. I decided to drop the marketing class because, while only an 8-week class, it had a lot of reading and projects during the time. I’m still taking 23 credits, but I can breathe a little easier!

At around 4pm I had to head back up to Jacksonville for a sorority meeting at 7. I said my goodbyes and headed back to my apartment. I had a good meeting (despite a little mix-up with my dues payment), and came back to the apartment to eat. I have no idea what my problem is but my appetite is all weird right now. :/

Dinner:

I had a roasted vegetable salad with a side of black beans. It does not look like much, but considering I was snacking all day, I was full!

Okay, food aside… I know you want to know my big plans for the next few months!  ;)

I have signed up for two racing events coming up pretty soon! :D

First up:

On February 26th and 27th, I will be in Tampa running in the 2011 Gasparilla Distance Classic! :D I have decided to participate in the Beck’s Light Challenge which consists of running a 15K, 5K, and a Half- Marathon, all on the same weekend! The 15K and 5K are on Saturday with the half on Sunday morning. I am super excited for this challenge, and my training program will be interesting. It will be difficult running 12.4 miles on one day and 13.1 only 24 hours later, but I am confident I will be able to do it!

My training plan is to be determined. I need to look over and analyze my Disney plan to see what worked and what did not. (Look for a post in the next few days!) I am hoping to finalize my training plan by tomorrow evening. I have seven weeks till the race and I really want to work on getting my half- marathon time down. I would like to amp up the amount of speed work and tempo runs, all while preventing injuries!

Half- marathon number three will be the IronGirl Half- Marathon in Clearwater, FL on April 10th. I am really excited for this event, one because it is only four days before my 21st birthday (happy early birthday to me! ;) ), two because I’ve heard that the course is super fast, and three, I know that other bloggers will be running this (I know another Katy is running!). I know that this training is going to be a little weird because more than likely I will be taking a full week off from running right in the middle of training because of my spring break trip to Costa Rica. I am still trying to figure out how it will work and if it will hinder me in anyway, but I am excited for this race!

Oh, and did I mention it is an all female race? Girl power! :D

I’m sure I will have a few 5K’s and 10K’s thrown around in the mix during my training, but I am super excited for the next few months. It’s a little crazy jumping from one training into another, but it keeps me motivated and striving for new goals.

This week I am reducing my mileage a little bit for good measure. I was a little sore today in my quads, but I have no IT band pain which was a miracle. :) Tomorrow I will take an easy run to stretch out the legs after a (well-deserved) rest day today.

Even though Disney is done and my first half- marathon is behind me, I hope that you will continue to follow my journey as I achieve new goals and PR’s. I really appreciate all of the comments and encouragement you all give me everyday! I am a blessed girl!

  1. Wow that Beck’s challenge sounds like fun! I am tempted to do the Iron Girl but I think I’m going to stick to the Florida Beach half in March so my husband can run it with me! I would love to see your training plan for the Beck’s challenge though!

  3. Yay those challenges sounds great :) The best way to cope with the post race blues is to book more races. The 3 races in one weekend sound challenging, but achievable which is what you need! I look forward to reading about how your training goes ;)

  7. Hey I just found your blog! Congratulations on the hfalf-marathon! I spectated a little of the WDW marathon last year and I was so inspired!
    Looks like you have a bunch of great races lined up!
