“The Singing Runner” Sings!
| October 14, 2011 | Posted by Katy under Singing, Videos |
Thank you so much for the kind comments on my one year blogging birthday post! Make sure you enter the giveaway if you haven’t already!
Whenever I run a big race, I like to put my blog URL on the back of my shirt.

Shameless promotion? Maybe…but hey, it works!
So, when people see my blog name, the one question I get asked time and time again is “are you going to sing?” or “why aren’t you singing?”
I laugh and say, “Oh, singing while running is a bit difficult. Maybe at the finish line!”
Then I usually get something about false advertising thrown back at me. Eh, guess I deserve it.
Anyway, I have had this blog for a year now and most of you have never heard me sing before. Why?
Well, I love singing but I am very self- conscious and self-critical of my abilities. (This is another reason why I want to get out of this business.) I strive for perfection and anything less than my best is not good enough.
However, I think that enough is enough and I am going to face the music (#punintended) and post a video of me singing.
It is not my best, but it is something. I had been singing for over two hours and was at the end of my practice session for the evening. I flub a few words here and there, mess up tempo, and some notes, but I didn’t feel like recording it for the 5th time, so bear with me.
Also, I apologize for the awful quality (I took it in Photo Booth), the awkward hair flip at the beginning, and three minutes of me staring at a wall.
Here goes nothing…
I hope I didn’t send you running for the hills!
Anyway, I hope you have a fantastic weekend! If you are racing- good luck and be amazing!
My name is Katy and I am a 23-year-old living, running, and cycling in and around the Washington, DC metro area. This blog chronicles my life, inner musings, and fitness adventures as I try to navigate this crazy thing called life!

Wow, for some reason I always imagined you as a much higher soprano! This was excellent though!
Haha! I do have many higher notes, but they usually come out in my classical/ foreign language music verses musical theatre!
Thank you!
You have a great voice! I’m really impressed
Thank you!
Why did you disable the comments on the video???
Because it definitely wasn’t my best performance and I don’t want people to slam me in the comments section!
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you!
You have a great voice! I have often wished that I could sing… Thank you so much for sharing on your blog!
Aw thank you so much!
your voice is beautiful!!! thank you for being brave enough to share with us
))
Thanks girl!
Beautiful voice!!
Thanks!
You have a beautiful alto voice! (at least it sounds like you’re an alto, am I right?)
Was the video shot in a mirror? I noticed you were flipping through your music backwards!
Aaaand, one last question- are you a student at UNF? Just curious =)
Believe it or not, I’m actually a soprano! It’s just that most musical theatre rep these days cater to the lower voice! But I am a soprano!
Haha, I was wondering if someone was going to notice that everything was flipped. When you record in Photo Booth, it flips everything. It’s annoying! Lol!
I go to JU but have a few friends who go to UNF!
Great Voice!
You’re brilliant! You could knock the socks off anyone on the X Factor.
I think it’s a shame you’re not pursuing singing but I can understand why in terms of it being stressful for a perfectionist like you. But you have real talent there.
I am NO singer at all – I would give anything to be able to sing like you can
xxx
Aw thank you so much! That is such a great compliment!
Wow, awesome voice! I was in chorus when I was young (because that’s where they put the “good kids”) and I always wished that I could actually sing. Instead, I banged bongo drums and xylophones, lol. You, however, definitely have lots of talent!
Haha! Xylophones are the best though!
Thank you!
Yay! You are an awesome singer!
Bravo Kiddo! Really enjoy hearing you sing. Wish you would post more of these videos of you singing. What is amazing is that you did this on the evening of such a bad day. It lifted my spirits and brought tears to your Mother’s eye. Love ya sweetie! Mom oxoxox…
you have a beautiful voice! I have always wished I could sing… but I am terribly tone deaf!
You shouldn’t feel self-conscious – you sound great! You have a beautiful instrument, a lot of control, great intonation, and great expressive instincts. Thanks for posting – it was nice to finally hear you sing!
Simply gorgeous (despite the recording quality)! Your expressions and smile match the beauty of the sound. The words to the song are also like…woah. Kinda sad though you’re giving this up. I hope you always keep it a part of your life. Please post another one again some time.
Ps: The intro to this post made me LOL.
Music will always be a part of my life, but in a different capacity.
Yeah – The singing runner sings! Finally!
You have a beautiful voice. A clean pure tone that I really like. As a former arranging major at Berklee College of Music in Boston, I have worked with a lot of talented singers there. Your voice was inspiring me to dig out my score paper to write you something. Please post more.
Aw thank you Brent. That is seriously the best compliment someone could give me.
