Summer Training 2012: Week 4
| May 28, 2012 | Posted by Katy under Summer 2012 Training |
I survived the storm! Thank you so much to everyone who sent me messages and Tweets these last 24 hours. While rain is in the forecast for the remainder of the week, the worse of it is done.
My apartment complex sustained some damage but nothing serious. The important thing is everyone seems to be ok and is watching out for each other. I even met my neighbors for the first time last night. It only took 7 months and a tropical storm; better late than never I suppose?

Ok, enough storm talk. Last week’s training was pretty good, although I had some workouts cut a little short. Here is how it looked…
May 21- 27, 2012:
Monday: Swim 1300m+ Strength Training+ Core/ Stretch
This swim workout felt good. Things are really starting to click for me in the water and I am feeling more confident in my abilities to pull a massive swim split PR during my next triathlon (pending I don’t freak out in the water). After the swim, I did my strength training, core work, and stretching.
Tuesday: Bike 23.67 miles
This was a fun ride. It was absolutely hot outside but towards the end of the ride, it started pouring rain. The rain was a nice way to cool down and my last five miles were negative splits.
Wednesday: BRICK- Bike 14.01 miles + Run 3 miles
This brick workout was a MESS! While my overall pace on the bike was not too shabby, the run was awful due to my own mistake. I accidentally brought my Brooks and not my Asics for the run. While I am transitioning into the Brooks, my legs are not quite ready for the shoe after riding the bike. Lesson learned.
Thursday: Swim 1000m+ Strength Training+ Core/ Stretch
The plan called for 1500m but I got kicked out of my lane due to a water aerobics class. Not a big deal, but it was a little unexpected (since the class was not on the schedule). I also lifted weights, did core work, and a lot of stretching.
Friday: Run 5 miles (Treadmill)
Originally I planned on doing this run around my apartment but I did not feel comfortable running in the dark in the area. So I did this run at early o’ thirty (5:30) on the treadmill at the gym. I run a lot slower on the treadmill since I take walk breaks because my legs tend to hurt. The run was not my favorite, but at least I had an episode of PanAm to keep me occupied.
Saturday: REST (USATF Clinic)
Sunday: Run 6.32 miles

I set out to do 7 miles but had to cut the run short due to time. I started this run just before 5:45 and ran around the University of Central Florida. I had run exploring the campus in the pre-dawn hours.
- Running Mileage= 14.32
- Bike Mileage= 37.68
- Swim Distance= 2300m
- Total Distance= 53.43
Not a bad week. I wish that my running mileage was closer to the 15 mile mark but I was less than a mile off so I can’t complain too much. I made improvements in the pool and felt solid on the bike.
I am so ready to race on Saturday and then my upcoming triathlon two weeks later. It has been almost two months since I raced seriously and I am excited!
Last Week’s Goals:
- Do well on my phone interview. (Ehh…)
- Start tapering down my running mileage (CHECK!)
- Have a great time in Orlando at the USATF Coaching Clinic this weekend (CHECK!)
Goals For Next Week:
- Do well on my first Anatomy and Physiology exam
- Drive safe
- Have a good race experience on Saturday (PR or not)
Previous Weeks:
Have a fantastic week!

Whoohoo, I love the UCF mention!
As an alum, I hope you thoroughly enjoyed the campus. Best wishes for Saturday!
Oh wow, that’s some major damage! Have fun at UCF, and good luck!
