Help Me Become Better…

I’ve been blogging consistently for close to two years. When I first started in October 2010, I was a new runner training for my first half-marathon. At the time, my blog began as a way to track my training progress and share my daily eats. It started off small but my readership grew with every post I wrote.

Fast forward to today and I have accomplished so much in a relatively short amount of time. I have ran five more half-marathons, graduated college, traveled to new places, and made many friends and connections through blogging.

Last summer I went through a change in what I wrote about on a daily basis. For the most part, I threw out the daily eats and recapping of my day for blog posts that were more focused and thought provoking. I also got out of the mindset that I must blog every single day and post only when I have something to say and share.

However, lately I have been wondering why I am keeping up with my blog. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love writing and blogging, but I don’t know if people are still reading. Of course readership is NOT the most important aspect about blogging; there is so much more important than hitting X amount of views a day, but I have been questioning if my topics have run dry.

I have many ideas of topics I want to discuss, especially in terms of training and other exercise information I have recently learned, but I don’t know if that is interesting. I am also not certified in anything yet so I am not qualified to give professional advice, although I will have my USATF Level 1 Track Coach and ACSM Personal Trainer certifications by the end of the summer.

I would discuss my training more but lately it has been sub-par as I am not really training for any BIG events (i.e.- a marathon, Half-Ironman, etc) other than a few triathlons throughout the summer. While I am planning on amping my training up after my triathlon next Sunday, I still do not think my training deserves multiple posts a week.

I am not ready to say “adios” to blogging just yet, but I am really missing the interaction that I used to have with everyone. I will absolutely take blame in being secretive of what is going on in my life lately. There is a lot going on behind the scenes that I can not share yet (but will if everything works out) so that has put up a bit of a wall between me and what I can write about. I have been writing more general/ informational topics verses personal/ “what is going on in my life today” posts recently as a result.

So I turn to you my friends for some help and advice. Is there anything specific that you would like for me to discuss or change here on the blog? I am working on getting better at responding to comments and reading everyone’s blogs so I can keep the line of communication open. I realize that I wrote a post like this late last year but I suppose I’ve lost my touch again a little.

As always, thank you all for your support and encouragement. I love this community and want to continue to be an active member of it… I just need a little help right now!

  1. I love reading about your training for triathlons. I’m just starting to train for my first triathlon (i think- i’m not 100% registered yet!) and am loving the fact that I can read all about someone else’s training!

    • yes- more triathlon training posts! Like- a runner’s perspective to doing a tri, what are the basic tools/gear you need for triathlons (most tri sites I’ve seen have advice on this, but it’s mostly geared toward men), bike workouts, swim workouts, etc =)

      • Definitely! It is like you are reading my mind because I was planning on doing a runner’s perspective post next week (after my triathlon on Sunday). i am still new to the triathlon world (and learning A LOT) but I will be sure to do more triathlon posts! :)

    • Register for the race! Triathlons are so much fun and a good way to mix it up from running all the time! :)

  2. I’m still reading every day!

  3. exciting about the PT certification! way to go!

  4. I hear you about the interaction. It is so hard to tell what we are and aren’t doing “right” when the comment stream is not heavy.

I’m still reading and enjoying your insight. We all understand why some things have to stay off the blog until finalized, but will be here when you announce!

  5. Katy,

I am still reading your blog, simply because the one thing you are awesome at is being yourself. Your training insight from someone who is not a personal trainer or certified is refreshing. You are human being experiencing this and sharing it. We all go through lulls and uncertainty. Personally I want to read more on your Tri training and I wouldn’t mind seeing the odd recipe or two in there again.
PS: Thanks to you, I am starting to blog about my running and my first goofy next year. Thank you !

    • Sure thing! I pretty much eat the same dinner 4-5 times a week, but I made a new dish tonight that I’ll be sharing later this week! :)

Oh, and I am so happy you are blogging! I will definitely check it out!
