Summer Training 2012: Week 7
| June 17, 2012 | Posted by Katy under Summer 2012 Training |
Happy Sunday and Happy Father’s Day to those of you out there! I hope you all had an incredible day!
I did my triathlon this morning but do not have the recap ready yet because the results have not been posted (I still do not know my official finish time)…and the event was a total mess. There was a lot of communication errors and safety concerns during the race (especially the swim portion) and I want to take the time tomorrow to write out a well-thought recap/ review. I’ll be traveling for half of the day tomorrow so I will get it done in the air or during my layover. I will say that I received some battle scars in the form of some busted up knees. Stay tuned folks!
Finally, before I head into my training recap for the week, I wanted to wish my dad a Happy Father’s Day. I was fortunate enough to spend part of the day with him, as he spectated/ played race photographer this morning during my triathlon. It meant the world to me that he was there supporting me, because without him, I probably would have panicked during the race. I love you!

And now here is my training from this past week…
June 11- 17, 2012:
Monday: Bike 18.22 miles
There is nothing much to say about this ride other than it felt pretty good once I got going. I am always sluggish and in a little pain when I first begin cycling but after a few miles, my legs are loose and ready to go.
Tuesday: Swim 1000m+ Strength Training+ Core/ Stretching
This was a rough swim. I had planned on swimming 1600m, but I could not mentally get into the workout. My mind kept wandering to my uncle so I called it at 1000m and hit the weight room. It ended up being a good choice anyway because just as I was entering the locker room, the lifeguards were making everyone get out of the pool due to a storm coming in.
Wednesday: Run 4.01 miles
Originally planned on five miles but during my run, I received the call about my Uncle’s passing and was done.
Thursday: Spin Class+ Core/ Stretching
This spin class ROCKED! I know that I need to be spending more time on my bike and less in the spin studio, but I needed a tough spin class to get out some emotions and frustrations. The spin instructor ended up doing an older release of RPM (I believe it was 49) which I normally hate, but I was drenched in sweat by the end. Best spin class in awhile!
Friday: Run 7 miles

This was the first run where I felt like the “old me.” I have not had a relaxed, carefree run like this in over a year and a half and it was fantastic. I may not have been as fast as the “old me”, but that is ok. Never once did I worry about how far I had gone or what my pace was. I ran, was connected with my body, and enjoyed the moment.
Saturday: REST
Sunday: Marineland Sprint Triathlon

Stay tuned for the race recap tomorrow. This race is going to be difficult to put into words because it was such an organizational nightmare. At least I fought till the finish!
- Running Mileage= 14.01
- Bike/ Spin Mileage= 30.7+ Spin Class
- Swim Distance= 1000m+ Triathlon distance (unknown at this time)
- Total Distance= 45.33
I feel like I am never truly satisfied with my training weeks. There is always something I am looking to improve, which is good, but I do want a week where everything feels absolutely solid and great. Maybe I’ll get there eventually. I did feel fairly solid during two out of three runs this week which is an improvement over past weeks, so I’ll take it!
Last Week’s Goals:
- Do well on my second Anatomy and Physiology exam (Not like I hoped…)
- Research aerobars for my bike (FAIL!)
- Continue searching for a summer running plan (FAIL!)
- Do the best I can at my triathlon on Sunday (Given the circumstances…yes)
- Have fun! (At times…)
Goals For Next Week:
- Travel safe
- Spend time with family
- Do my best with fitting in workouts but don’t obsess due to travel this week.
Previous Weeks:
Have a great week!

Congrats on pushing through the triathlon; I’m sorry the company let you (and the other athletes) down.
I know things are rough for you right now, but I hope you are doing well, regardless. Cherish the time with your family this week!
