The Steel City

Hello from Pittsburgh, PA!

I am in town for the next few days as part of a belated graduation trip. I had planned this trip before my uncle had passed so I felt a little weird and selfish going on this trip. However, after many talks with family members, I was urged to continue with my plans.

I left Maryland early this morning with a very short 40 minute flight from Baltimore, putting me in Pittsburgh at 11.

This is my first time in the city, but my cousin lived here for four years during college, so I have heard great things. I was pretty exhausted by the time I made it to my hotel so I relaxed for a little and took in the view from my hotel room.

After awhile, I went to Panera in the hotel lobby for lunch. Then I decided to walk around and get a feel for the area. I took a walk over to the University of Pittsburgh and allowed myself to “get lost” for awhile. There is something relaxing about college campuses (when it is not your own) and I love seeing all of the buildings.

I have to say that the University of Pittsburgh is gorgeous! I was completely awestruck by all of the beautiful architecture and landscaping. The neighborhood surrounding the university is also beautiful and very very hilly! I am looking forward to some hill work this week!

I ended up walking for about an hour and a half before I went back to the hotel to do some school work (I have an online exam due on Friday) and unpacking before heading out to dinner at Fuel & Fuddle on Oakland Avenue. The restaurant had good reviews on Yelp! and was not too far of a walk. I ordered the Pacifically Salmon Salad with a HUGE piece of salmon on top of a bed of spinach, artichokes, olives, and onions. It was delicious but I definitely could not finish the salmon because it was so huge!

Now I’m back at my hotel, relaxing before I head off to bed. I have a busy day tomorrow and will be heading more into the Downtown area to explore and sightsee! I’ll have a more interesting recap tomorrow!

Have you ever been to Pittsburgh? Any place I should not miss before I leave on Friday?
