Weekly Wrap-Up: Sept 3- 9, 2012

Happy Sunday! I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready for the new week ahead.

This week was a bit rocky in terms of my fitness, but at least I did manage to stay active. Here is how it played out…

September 3- 9, 2012:

Monday: Run 4.03 miles

The pace on this run was not too bad. Not fast by any means, but faster than what I have been running lately. It was a pretty humid morning, but nothing that I couldn’t handle. If I had known what would happen on Wednesday (more below), I would have enjoyed myself a little more. Hindsight is 20/20.

Tuesday: Spin Class (AM)+ Strength Training (AM)+ Walk 2 miles (PM)

This spin class was packed! I ended up grabbing the last bike and I’m glad that I did. This class was tough, but the instructor was so motivating! Before class I did my strength training workout for the day which was a full body workout. In the evening, I went on a brisk two mile walk around the neighborhood.

Wednesday: Run 3 miles

The run itself was not awful (not great either), but it was what happened after the run that is disappointing. I did this run immediately after I got back to my aunt’s house after my internship so I was a bit tired, but made it through.

However, after the run, my leg pain was higher than it has been in a long time. This leg pain is nothing new and I have been told that I can continue to run, as long as I don’t have any pain while running. However, I have this deep gut feeling that I need to stop running before it gets any worse. I am obviously frustrated because I am going on one year of this pain, but I want this pain to go away once and for all and will take more time off from running. What this means for Disney, I don’t know, but only time will tell.

Thursday: Strength Training+ Core/ Stretching

I hit the gym early to get in an arm workout and a long core session before I had to go to work for my aunt. Originally I was going to go ride my bike too (in the afternoon) but got back to my aunt’s too late to fit in a decent ride.

Friday: REST

Saturday: Bike 35.11 miles

A new personal distance record! If I can’t run, I will definitely ride! While cycling will always come second to running, it does allow me to be outside (as opposed to being stuck in the gym) and challenge me. I am hoping to continue to increase my distance over the next month while I allow my lower legs to heal a little.

Sunday: Spin Class+ Core/ Stretching

This spin class not as good as Tuesday’s but it was still fun. The instructor played a lot of Michael Jackson and had us laughing a lot. I also did my core workout and a lot of deep stretching.

  • Running Mileage= 7.03 miles
  • Spin/ Bike Mileage= 35.11 miles+ 2 Spin Classes
  • Swim Distance= 0 yds
  • Walking Distance= 2 miles
  • Total Distance=

    44.14+ 2 Spin Classes

This week was definitely filled with ups and downs. I had a disappointing turn of events with my running, but gained a small uplift with my cycling. I refuse to let this setback get me down and I will just do what I can to maintain my cardio fitness as much as I can so I can return to running in semi-decent shape (whenever that may be).

Last Week’s Goals:

  • Increase running mileage (specifically long run) (FAIL- see note about Wednesday’s run)
  • Have a good first week at my internship! (CHECK- I guess!)
  • Find a new pool and get a swim in (I did the first part- hoping to go swim tomorrow!)
  • Find a bike shop and get bike serviced (CHECK!)

Goals For Next Week:

  • Find a good sports doctor to get a third opinion on my leg pain.
  • Ride my bike at least two times.
  • Start looking for a bike training plan.
  • Get in a swim.
  • Don’t get discouraged about my lack of running.
  • Set up a study schedule for my ACSM preparation

Have a great week!

  1. Congrats on your new bike PDR! That’s so fun!

I hope you are able to get another opinion on your leg pain – I feel like I am constantly injured (currently running on an ankle sprain and a toe that feel like death – I can only assume it will lead to the loss of a toenail. ewww) With that said…I think pushing through running related injurys always makes you stronger mentally. I admire your desire and determination to try to find out what is wrong :)

    • Thanks Nicole! I’m hoping to get to the bottom of this leg pain once and for all. Hopefully a month off from running will put me back on the right track to running pain free. i would love to remember what that feels like! ;)
